  Private Sessions

I love working one-on-one with people in the private lesson setting.  This format allows me to focus exclusively on the individual and craft a session to address his or her unique needs and goals.  

Private lessons can be useful for new students as an introduction to yoga and the correct way to do the basic asanas. We can develop sequences to do at home, either to address a specific issue or to establish and build a home practice.

For more experienced students, private instruction can give a greater insight on the subtleties of correct alignment in the asanas; everyone has their own asymmetries which are essential to understand in order to avoid injury, improve misalignment, and gain strength and flexibility. Asymmetry can be difficult for even the most advanced practioner to perceive and master on their own. A private session can also focus on adding new poses to an established practice to make it more interesting or challenging.

Finally, private sessions offer the ideal environment for doing therapeutic work and addressing injury. 

  Starting a Home Practice
  If you are looking for a way to start or support your home practice you may like to try a series of three private lessons. A New/Introductory Private Student Special offers three one-hour lessons for $180.  During these three sessions we will put together a series of short sequences (e.g. 20-30 minutes in length). Many students find that they are able to bring these written and illustrated notes home with them and use them as reference and inspiration for their growing home practice.  I am also happy to be available by email and/or phone with my students to address any practice questions that come up.
  Working with Injury and Illness

I work with many people who are living with various injuries and/or medical conditions.  My goal in private work with these students is to provide a supportive, safe and completely individualized practice that helps people to practice yoga without exacerbating their issues. Students develop a better understanding of technique and alignment which protects them from injury. In some cases a sequence of carefully chosen and executed asanas will provide some relief by increasing circulation (blood and lymph flow), improving range of motion, building strength, improving breathing and posture.  I have had students with various conditions including sports injuries, back pain, osteoporosis, arthritis, scoliosis, and plantar fasciatis.

Rates are $75 for a 1-hour session, $100 for an hour-and-a-half; a package rate of $350 is available for five 1-hour sessions. I also offer an introductory rate for new students of $180 for three 1-hour sessions.
